About the position

As a Part Time Head Cashier at Lowe's, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional customer service while managing the self-checkout area. Your primary responsibility will be to assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers, ensuring they have a smooth and efficient shopping experience. You will proactively engage with customers, offering assistance and recommendations for products and services, while also maintaining a clean and organized checkout area. Your ability to multitask and interact positively with customers will be essential in this role. In addition to customer service, you will be responsible for training and coaching other associates in the front-end team, ensuring they are equipped to provide the same high level of service. You will handle cash transactions, process sales, returns, and refunds, and ensure compliance with company policies regarding cash handling. Your role will also involve monitoring the checkout area for security risks, assisting with merchandise returns, and maintaining the overall cleanliness and safety of the store environment. This position requires a proactive approach to customer service, as you will be expected to seek out customers, understand their needs, and assist them in locating and purchasing merchandise. You will also be responsible for preparing the register area at the beginning and end of your shift, ensuring all equipment is functional and stocked with necessary supplies. Your ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members will be key to your success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
  • Provide SMART customer service by executing Lowe's customer service policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and loading merchandise.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
  • Coach, develop, and provide feedback to associates in various departmental duties.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and ensure proper handling of customer orders.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store and working areas according to housekeeping standards.
  • Detect signs of shoplifting and communicate security risks to management.
  • Prepare the register area at the beginning and end of shifts, ensuring functionality of registers and stocking supplies.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for information management.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
