About the position

As a Part Time Head Cashier at Lowe's, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional customer service while managing the checkout process. Your primary responsibility will be to assist customers at the self-checkout registers, ensuring they have a smooth and efficient shopping experience. You will proactively engage with customers, offering assistance and recommendations for products and services. This position requires you to be mobile, as you will be moving throughout the checkout area, standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting products to facilitate transactions. You will also be responsible for thanking customers for their business and inviting them back to shop at Lowe's. In addition to customer service, you will be expected to execute Lowe's customer service policies and procedures consistently. This includes seeking out customers to understand their needs, assisting them in locating and selecting merchandise, and providing knowledgeable responses to their inquiries. You will also coach and develop other associates, providing feedback and training on various departmental duties and sales opportunities. Your role will involve using a cash register to process sales transactions, returns, and refunds, ensuring compliance with company guidelines. You will also be responsible for maintaining the register area, preparing it at the beginning and end of your shift, and ensuring that all equipment is functional. This includes inspecting returned merchandise, entering customer orders, and verifying receipts. Additionally, you will monitor the store for security risks, ensuring compliance with safety standards and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Your role may also involve operating various store equipment as needed, depending on your specific responsibilities. Overall, this position requires a blend of customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment. You will be held accountable for other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the store and enhancing the shopping experience for customers.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet, assist, and engage with customers.
  • Provide SMART customer service through the execution of Lowe's policies and procedures.
  • Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and loading merchandise.
  • Respond knowledgeably to customer and employee questions.
  • Coach, develop, and train associates in departmental duties and sales opportunities.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register.
  • Provide supervision and support to the CSA Front End Team.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and verify product information.
  • Monitor merchandise entering and leaving the store and assist customers who trigger alarms.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Prepare the register area at the beginning and end of shifts.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for information management.
  • Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
  • 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
