About the position

As a Part Time Head Cashier at Lowe's in Mechanicsville, Virginia, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional customer service and ensuring smooth operations at the checkout area. Your primary responsibility will be to assist customers at the self-checkout registers, monitoring multiple stations simultaneously to identify those who may need help. You will proactively engage with customers, recommending products and services, and ensuring they have a positive shopping experience. This role requires you to be on your feet, moving throughout the checkout area, and performing various tasks such as standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting to facilitate accurate transaction completion. You will also be responsible for thanking customers for their business and inviting them back to shop at Lowe's. In addition to assisting customers, you will be expected to provide SMART customer service by adhering to Lowe's policies and procedures. This includes seeking out customers to understand their needs, assisting them in locating and selecting merchandise, and responding knowledgeably to inquiries. You will also coach and develop other associates, providing feedback and training on departmental duties and sales opportunities. Your role will involve using a cash register to process sales transactions, returns, and refunds, ensuring compliance with company guidelines. You will supervise the CSA Front End Team, providing support and coaching as needed, and ensuring that the checkout area is well-stocked and functional at the beginning and end of your shift. Maintaining a clean and safe store environment is also a key responsibility. You will monitor cash levels in drawers, assist with security measures, and ensure compliance with housekeeping standards. This includes conducting daily safety reviews and maintaining a secure work environment. You will operate various store equipment as required, contributing to the overall efficiency and safety of the store. In addition to these responsibilities, you may be assigned other duties as needed, making this a dynamic and engaging position.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
• Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
• Provide SMART customer service by executing Lowe's policies and procedures.
• Assist customers in locating, demonstrating, selecting, and loading merchandise.
• Respond knowledgeably to customer and employee questions and guide them through projects.
• Coach, develop, and train associates in departmental duties and sales opportunities.
• Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
• Supervise and support the CSA Front End Team, ensuring adequate coverage at registers.
• Prepare the register area by confirming functionality and stocking supplies at the beginning and end of shifts.
• Monitor merchandise entering and leaving the store and assist customers who trigger alarms.
• Detect signs of shoplifting and communicate them to management or Asset Protection.
• Ensure compliance with safety and housekeeping standards to maintain a clean and organized store.

Requirements

• Less than 1 year of experience using a computer for information management.
• Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
• 1 to 2 years of retail experience as a cashier.
• Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 to 2 years of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs.
• 1 to 2 years of experience as a head cashier.
• 1 to 2 years of experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store.
• 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience in any field.
