About the position

The Part-Time, Hourly Nutritionist position at the Georgia Department of Public Health involves planning and conducting nutritional programs to promote health and control disease. The role includes providing nutritional assessments, education, and counseling to individuals and groups, serving as a resource for health care providers, and participating in emergency response activities as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assess nutritional needs, diet restrictions, and current health plans to develop and implement dietary-care plans and provide nutritional counseling.
  • Consult with physicians and health care personnel to determine nutritional needs and diet restrictions of clients.
  • Advise clients and their families on nutritional principles, dietary plans, and diet modifications, as well as food selection and preparation.
  • Counsel individuals and groups on basic rules of good nutrition, healthy eating habits, and nutrition monitoring to improve their quality of life.
  • Develop policies for food service or nutritional programs to assist in health promotion and disease control.
  • Develop curriculum and prepare manuals, visual aids, course outlines, and other materials used in teaching.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate strategies for promoting and supporting breastfeeding.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in dietetics, human nutrition, foods and nutrition, nutrition education, food systems management, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Verification statement of completion of a didactic program accredited by The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • For Nutritionist 2: Two years of job-related experience providing nutrition care to groups and individuals, or two years of experience at the lower-level Dietitian/Nutritionist 1 or equivalent.
  • For Nutritionist 3: Three years of job-related experience providing nutrition care to groups and individuals, or two years of experience at the lower-level Dietitian/Nutritionist 2 or equivalent.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bi-lingual in Spanish/English (preferred)
  • Minimum overall undergrad GPA of 2.5
