About the position

The Part-Time HS Counselor/Academic Advisor at College of the Mainland is responsible for interviewing and advising students on academic requirements and career pathways. This role assists students in exploring their career options, evaluating their academic abilities, and setting educational goals. The counselor will monitor students' academic progress and provide guidance on course selection and college policies.

Responsibilities

  • Interview and advise students regarding academic requirements and career pathways.
  • Assist students in exploring careers and evaluating academic abilities.
  • Set academic and career goals for students.
  • Identify educational and career options appropriate for each student.
  • Create action plans for students to explore alternative careers and related majors.
  • Monitor academic progress and determine eligibility for degree requirements.
  • Refer students to appropriate campus resources for assistance.
  • Interpret and explain college policies and procedures.
  • Assist students with admission and registration processes.
  • Provide guidance in course selection based on students' career paths.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Counseling or related field (10 years experience in HS Counseling 7-12).
  • Texas High School Counselors Certificate (5 years experience preferred).
  • Knowledge of D2L Brightspace.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Early/Middle College High School programming.
  • Knowledge of Texas core requirements and career assessment programs.
  • Experience in post-secondary academic advising (5 years preferred).
