About the position

The Part-Time Instructor for Information Technology (Cybersecurity) at Central Piedmont Community College is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in cybersecurity. This role involves developing lesson plans, assessing student performance, and maintaining an engaging learning environment both in-person and online. The instructor will also contribute to curriculum development and stay updated with industry trends to ensure the relevance of course content.

Responsibilities

  • Develop lesson plans that align with the curriculum, focusing on both theoretical and practical IT skills.
  • Create assessments and projects to gauge IT concept understanding and provide constructive feedback.
  • Establish a supportive learning environment, encouraging participation and managing classroom or online disruptions.
  • Assist in the creation or revision of course content to reflect current IT trends and employer needs.
  • Continuously update knowledge to keep course material current with the evolving IT industry.
  • Adhere to college policies and maintain accurate records of student performance, including grades and attendance.
  • Engage with fellow faculty and department staff in meetings and initiatives, sharing best practices.
  • Honor the teaching schedule and communicate any conflicts or changes in advance.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, threat detection, and mitigation techniques.
  • Proficiency in security tools like firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, and encryption technologies.
  • Knowledge of risk management and compliance.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills to engage diverse learners.
  • Ability to create comprehensive course material and syllabi, aligning realistic timeframes, assignments, and exercises with each class session.
  • Proven industry expertise with at least 3 years of hands-on experience in cybersecurity.

Nice-to-haves

  • Industry certification or demonstrated expertise in the specified field.
  • Experience teaching adult learners.
  • Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in a specified program of study.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CEH are highly desirable.
