About the position

The Part-Time Instructor for High School Equivalency Language Arts at Central New Mexico Community College is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to diverse learners, ensuring that students meet course outcomes and achieve their educational goals. This role involves collaboration with colleagues and the Dean to enhance the student learning experience, with classes assigned based on student enrollment and needs.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively prepare, teach, grade, and assess student learning in assigned courses.
  • Create and model a quality learning environment for a diverse student population, including those with disabilities or special learning needs.
  • Maintain student records and provide documentation for in-completes within established College timelines.
  • Utilize various technology-based programs to manage student records and departmental processes.
  • Assist students with registration, advising, and graduation processes.
  • Structure classes and curriculum to align with program and course outcomes.
  • Prepare and utilize instructional support materials, including course syllabi and supplementary materials.
  • Convene classes as scheduled and respond to student inquiries.
  • Assist students outside the classroom through posted office hours.
  • Attend in-service sessions, college/school/department meetings, and graduation events as required.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related area from an accredited institution.
  • Four semesters of teaching English Language Arts at the secondary (9-12) or post-secondary level.
  • Availability to teach in-person courses during the day.

Nice-to-haves

  • A Master's degree or higher in English, Education, or a related area from an accredited institution.
  • Two or more years of experience teaching English, or Reading and Writing at the secondary, adult education, or post-secondary level.
  • Teaching experience within the last five years.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
