About the position

The Part-Time Juvenile Detention Counselor at Loftiss RYDC in Thomasville, GA, is responsible for providing structured cognitive behavioral and life-skills group counseling sessions to juveniles. This role involves documenting programmatic activities and performing various administrative duties to facilitate juvenile rehabilitation while ensuring a safe and secure environment in a youth detention facility. The position is part-time, requiring less than 30 hours per week, and is not eligible for benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of all programs and case management services.
  • Work with program staff to ensure services align with best practices and departmental policy.
  • Provide structured cognitive behavioral and/or life-skills group counseling sessions under limited direction.
  • Document all programmatic activities and perform administrative duties to facilitate juvenile rehabilitation.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate groups and participate in facility-wide PBIS activities if applicable.
  • Conduct daily rounds on the living unit to identify and address youth needs.
  • Provide evening and weekend coverage for the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of youth.
  • Perform or direct the admission and orientation of youth in accordance with policy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Forensic Psychology, School Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Criminal Justice, or a directly related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field.
  • One or more years of direct case management experience working with offenders or families in a social work setting.
  • One or more years of experience working with juvenile offenders in detention facilities or at-risk youths in group home programs.
  • Three or more months of internship with the Department of Juvenile Justice.
