About the position

The USC School of Architecture is seeking qualified candidates for part-time faculty positions in architectural product design. This role involves teaching undergraduate-level workshops or seminars that cover a variety of topics including resilient design, sustainability, commercialization, circular economy, business planning and marketing, digital applications, industrial design, programming, fabrication, and manufacturing. The ideal candidate will possess a strong teaching portfolio that reflects critical disciplinary approaches to contemporary architectural product design, emphasizing technological, social, and cultural relevance. The position is part-time, constituting 30% of a full-time role, and offers a core salary range of $48.00 to $66.41 per hour, with compensation and rank determined based on the candidate's experience. Candidates are expected to demonstrate their expertise and experience through a comprehensive teaching portfolio. This portfolio should not only showcase their teaching capabilities but also their engagement with contemporary issues in architectural product design. Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate-level workshops or seminars in architectural product design.
  • Cover topics such as resilient design, sustainability, commercialization, circular economy, business planning/marketing, digital apps, industrial design, programming, fabrication, and manufacturing.
  • Develop and deliver course materials that reflect critical disciplinary approaches to contemporary architectural product design.
  • Engage students in discussions about technological, social, and cultural relevance in design.
  • Assess and evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Maintain a teaching portfolio that demonstrates experience and expertise in the field.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree (or equivalent) in architecture, design, or business is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of combined professional and teaching experience is preferred.
  • Proven track record of publication/exhibition is preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience at recognized schools of architecture is preferred.
  • Ability to teach software, fabrication, media, or graphics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with digital applications in architectural design.
  • Familiarity with circular economy principles in product design.
  • Knowledge of business planning and marketing strategies for design products.
