About the position

The Part-Time Lecturer in Information Design and Data Visualization (IDDV) at Northeastern University is responsible for teaching introductory and intermediate courses in information design, data visualization, and visual communication history. The role involves engaging students in various aspects of visual communication and data storytelling, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative data visualization methods. The lecturer may also be called upon to instruct additional graduate courses based on departmental needs and enrollment. This position is ideal for candidates with a strong background in both academic teaching and professional practice in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Teach introductory and intermediate courses in information design and data visualization.
  • Instruct courses on visual communication history and data storytelling.
  • Engage students at various levels of study, from beginning to advanced.
  • Develop course materials and assessments related to information design and visualization technologies.
  • Collaborate with the department to address enrollment and funding needs for course offerings.

Requirements

  • MFA or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field.
  • At least two years of successful college teaching experience or five years of professional practice in information design or data visualization.
  • Active career with current exhibition, publication, or creative practice related to the field.
  • Ability to effectively engage students at various levels of study.
