About the position

The Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California (USC) is seeking qualified Part-Time Lecturers to teach DSM 510: Introduction to Digital Social Media. This course is designed to introduce students to a scientific approach to digital media research, analysis, planning, and implementation, aimed at solving problems and achieving specific goals. In addition to mastering digital media fundamentals, students will enhance their professional communication skills, which include writing, presentations, and the application of various AI tools. The successful candidate will contribute to specialized topics within the Master of Science in Digital Social Media program, covering areas such as User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) Design, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Product Management, and Analytics & Artificial Intelligence (AI). The lecturer will also be responsible for teaching core program courses, including DSM 510 and DSM 520, Managing Technologies for Digital Media. The role requires delivering high-quality instruction that integrates theoretical concepts with practical applications, thereby preparing students for successful careers in the digital media industry. In this position, the lecturer will create a supportive and engaging learning environment that fosters critical thinking and creativity among students. The ability to engage with diverse student populations and contribute to a collaborative and inclusive academic environment is essential. Candidates with experience working in or closely with digital media industries are highly desirable, as are those with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective engagement with students, colleagues, and industry partners.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • A graduate degree in communication, business, education, or related disciplines is ideal but not required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in digital media.
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate, graduate, or professional levels, with strong student evaluations.
  • Proven experience engaging with diverse student populations and contributing to a collaborative and inclusive academic environment.
  • Minimum 10 years of recent experience as an executive, entrepreneur, or consultant in digital media or a related field.
  • Strong professional relationships to foster collaborations with industry partners and support DSM students and alumni in career advancement.

Benefits

  • Competitive pay range of $1,875 - $2,048 per unit.
  • Part-time faculty typically teach only two courses per semester, if approved by the dean.
