About the position

The M.S. in Digital Social Media (DSM) program at the University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism is seeking qualified Part-Time Lecturers to teach DSM 510: Introduction to Digital Social Media. This course is designed to introduce students to a scientific approach to digital media research, analysis, planning, and implementation, aimed at solving problems and achieving specific goals. In addition to mastering digital media fundamentals, students will enhance their professional communication skills, which include writing, presentations, and the application of various AI tools. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching specialized courses within the DSM program, focusing on critical topics such as User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) Design, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Product Management, and Analytics & Artificial Intelligence (AI). Furthermore, the lecturer will teach core program courses, including DSM 510, Introduction to Digital Media, and DSM 520, Managing Technologies for Digital Media. The role requires delivering high-quality instruction that effectively integrates theoretical concepts with practical applications, thereby preparing students for successful careers in the digital media industry. Creating a supportive and engaging learning environment is essential, as it fosters critical thinking and creativity among students. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to engage with diverse student populations and contribute to a collaborative and inclusive academic environment. Experience working in or closely with digital media industries is highly desirable, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, colleagues, and industry partners.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach specialized courses in the Master of Science in Digital Social Media program, focusing on topics such as User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) Design, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Product Management, and Analytics & Artificial Intelligence (AI).
  • Teach core program course DSM 510, Introduction to Digital Media.
  • Deliver high-quality instruction that integrates theory with practical applications, preparing students for careers in digital media industries.
  • Create a supportive and engaging learning environment that fosters critical thinking and creativity among students.
  • Engage with diverse student populations and contribute to a collaborative and inclusive academic environment.

Requirements

  • A graduate degree in communication, business, education, or related disciplines is ideal but not required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in digital media.
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate, graduate, or professional levels, with strong student evaluations.
  • Proven experience engaging with diverse student populations and contributing to a collaborative and inclusive academic environment.
  • Minimum 10 years of recent experience as an executive, entrepreneur, or consultant in digital media or a related field.
  • Strong professional relationships to foster collaborations with industry partners and support DSM students and alumni in career advancement.

Benefits

  • Competitive pay per unit ranging from $1,875 to $2,048.
  • Part-time faculty typically teach only two courses per semester, if approved by the dean.
