About the position

The Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering (IME) Department at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking applications for a Part-Time Lecturer Pool for the academic year 2024-2025. This position is designed for individuals who are capable of teaching various subjects within the fields of Industrial Engineering (IE) and Manufacturing Engineering (MfgE). The IME Department is looking for candidates who can teach courses in areas such as data analytics applications in industrial engineering, facilities planning, work measurement, simulation, operations research, information engineering, supply chain management, database management, industrial systems, human factors, engineering economy, and project management for IE. For MfgE, the focus areas include industrial automation, machining, welding, foundry, and electronics. Candidates with extensive industry experience are particularly encouraged to apply, as this experience can greatly enhance the learning environment for students. Appointments from the part-time pool are temporary and are often made just prior to the start of the academic term, so applicants must be available on very short notice. The initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty will be based on the candidate's professional experience and educational background, as determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are typically hired at the Lecturer A or B rank, with salary ranges varying accordingly. Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering as assigned.
  • Prepare course materials, including syllabi, assignments, and assessments.
  • Evaluate and grade student work in a timely manner.
  • Maintain office hours for student consultations and support.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to curriculum development.

Requirements

  • B.S. in industrial or manufacturing engineering or a related field is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively in the areas of industrial and manufacturing engineering.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in industrial or manufacturing engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • Extensive industry experience in relevant fields.
