About the position

The Part-Time Life Skills Coach at Middlesex College is responsible for supporting students with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Center for Adult Transitions. The role focuses on fostering independence and success in training and workplace environments through mentoring, coaching, and the development of life skills activities. The coach will also assist with program administration and record-keeping, ensuring a structured and supportive environment for students.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with students who have intellectual and developmental disabilities to ensure their success in the Center for Adult Transitions.
  • Develop weekly activities to foster independence and empower students to be successful in training and the workplace.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to CAT students.
  • Assist the Program Coordinator with various tasks including student intake, program assessment, and student interviews.
  • Manage program records tracking student attendance, employment placement, and retention.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops and activities to teach life skills.
  • Utilize software to compose correspondence, create documents, and develop classroom materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree
  • One (1) year of experience working with individuals with disabilities, in student services, or other related fields; experience may include student/graduate assistantship employment.
  • Understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Special Education, Counseling Psychology, Social Work
  • Professional work experience providing services for individuals with disabilities in a college or university setting
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong problem solving and organization skills
