As a Part-Time Meter Reader Transitional, you will receive a starting salary of $20.15/hour with a pay increase to $25.26/hour after successful completion of formal training. Training is pass or fail. Most shifts start at 6:30 AM, Monday through Friday, and may include some scheduled Saturdays according to an established schedule. This position requires a self-motivated person to meet the strenuous demands of the job, including extensive driving. A Part-Time Meter Reader Transitional uses a company assigned hand-held phone and tools to locate and read meters for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. Routes are completed the same day as assigned, according to an established schedule. The role involves locating and safely reading all meters within an assigned meter route, accessing hand-held phone information to ascertain or input meter reads, lifting concrete, steel, or plastic vault covers to access and read meters when necessary, and visually checking meter set assemblies for unusual, hazardous, or otherwise unsafe conditions such as diversion, corrosion, bypasses, or leaks. The position also requires initiating reports of such conditions when follow-up action is appropriate and reporting those conditions that require immediate follow-up.
