About the position
The Part-time Multimedia Communications Associate (Audio Engineer) at the University of Illinois Chicago is responsible for overseeing the audio-visual equipment and providing technical support for events at the UIC Pavilion. This role involves training and supervising technicians, setting up and operating various audio-visual systems, and ensuring high-quality audio for live productions. The position is part-time and requires on-site work, with a flexible schedule.
Responsibilities
- Sets up and operates digital and analog audio mixers, microphones, wireless systems, speakers, and portable P.A. systems for events.
- Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs on audio/visual equipment.
- Consults with clients to determine equipment needs for specific events.
- Edits and uploads graphics and messages for display ribbons and marquees.
- Operates in-house video equipment, including video switchers and cameras.
- Rigs audio speakers for events and manages audio feeds for televised events.
- Sets up communication devices and programs basic lighting for events.
- Maintains a physical inventory of audio/visual and communications equipment.
- Mixes audio for live productions and video recordings.
- Serves as lead sound technician for events requiring audio support.
Requirements
- One year of experience in communications, broadcasting, graphic design, video production, or a related field, or equivalent coursework (30 semester hours equals one year).
- Experience in instructional communications, instructional technology, or industrial communications.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with video editing software.
- Knowledge of lighting design and operation.
- Familiarity with event production and management.
