About the position

The MyLibrary NYC Outreach Librarian is responsible for liaising with MyLibrary NYC schools and providing training and support for educators and students on MyLibrary NYC initiatives. This role is part of a collaborative effort among several public libraries and the NYC Public Schools Office of Library Services to enhance access to reading materials and research tools, aligning with the Next Generation Learning Standards. The position involves delivering core services to participating schools, requiring frequent travel to various locations.

Responsibilities

• Provide training to students and educators on MyLibrary NYC initiatives and Queens Public Library resources.
• Serve as a resource and problem solver for project-related questions from schools.
• Visit assigned schools to support faculty, students, and parents on the use of MyLibrary NYC resources and services.
• Work with MyLibrary NYC schools to ensure all students and educators have Queens Public Library cards.
• Assist in the creation of training and promotional materials.
• Provide reference and reader's advisory services.
• Act as a liaison to MyLibrary NYC schools and their local Queens Public Library location.
• Assist in data collection for MyLibrary NYC and participate in community outreach and events.

Requirements

• MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited library school required.
• Must be eligible for the NYS librarian certification.
• Minimum 2 years relevant experience working with schools, educators, or youth required.
• Fingerprinting by the NYC Department of Education is required.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with the NYC public school environment preferred.
• Significant outreach experience and abilities in planning, organization, and administration preferred.
• Strong presentation and programming skills preferred.
