About the position

The WTIU/WFIU Newsroom at Indiana University Bloomington is seeking a part-time News Videographer to join its converged news team. This role is essential for producing high-quality video content for broadcast and online distribution. The videographer will be responsible for shooting and editing video for WTIU newscasts, ensuring that all assignments are completed by strict deadlines for radio, TV, and online platforms. The position requires a proactive approach to news coverage, where the videographer will also take on the roles of both photographer and reporter, producing daily and feature-length stories that engage the audience and meet the standards of public broadcasting. In addition to shooting and editing, the videographer will attend story meetings to pitch ideas and collaborate with the news team. The role involves using non-linear editing systems to deliver finished HD video projects that are ready for broadcast. The videographer will also edit news clips, incorporating voiceovers, soundbites, and packages for daily broadcasts and online distribution. This position is ideal for individuals pursuing a degree in journalism or a related field, who are eager to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced news environment.

Responsibilities

  • Shoots and edits video for broadcast in WTIU newscasts and for online distribution.
  • Covers events while fulfilling both the role of photographer and reporter, ensuring assignments are completed by deadline.
  • Produces daily and feature-length stories for broadcast on WFIU / WTIU and online distribution.
  • Attends story meetings and pitches story ideas.
  • Edits and delivers finished HD video projects ready for broadcast in daily and weekly newscasts and for the web.
  • Edits news clips including voiceovers, soundbites, and packages for daily broadcast and online distribution.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in journalism, telecommunication, or a related field.
  • 1 year of experience in a broadcast and/or journalism field.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.
  • Knowledge and experience with broadcast quality video cameras, lighting kits, and simple audio packages.
  • Knowledge and experience with Macintosh computers and Premiere non-linear editing systems.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced, 24/7/365 news environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Familiarity with public broadcasting.
  • Experience with AVID editing software.
