About the position

The Part-Time Paralegal position at Wilton Re involves supporting attorneys in the Operations department with regulatory matters, legal billing, and document management. The role requires strong organizational skills and the ability to develop new processes while interacting with various stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to excellence and attention to detail, along with a strategic mindset to synthesize data effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate responses to subpoenas including document collection and organization.
  • Act as point of contact for incoming notices of bankruptcies, liens, and levies, coordinating with attorneys to provide direction to third-party administrators.
  • Conduct legal research to assist attorneys with special projects for Operations and other corporate departments.
  • Maintain and update the litigation management system and litigation documentation filing.
  • Assist Finance with accurately recording and updating litigation reserves and legal fee accruals.
  • Review invoices from outside counsel and vendors, input legal invoices into the billing system for attorney approval, and process quarterly billing reconciliation.
  • Responsible for maintaining and organizing corporate business records.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience working as a paralegal in a corporation or law firm required.
  • Knowledge of life insurance/annuities/structured settlements preferred.
  • Expertise in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to consistently solve problems with a high degree of independent decision-making.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of work with minimal supervision while exercising judgment to appropriately discern when to escalate issues.
  • Superior organization skills with the ability to prioritize workload efficiently and effectively, and excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and must be highly team-oriented.
  • High level of professionalism and ability to maintain absolute confidentiality.
  • Ability to build business acumen and understand core elements of the applicable business area(s).
