About the position

Kitch Attorneys & Counselors is seeking a motivated and hardworking individual to join our defense-oriented firm as a Part-Time Paralegal. This role is ideal for candidates with 2-3 years of experience in Medical Malpractice. The successful candidate will support our legal practice by preparing essential documents such as affidavits and legal correspondence, as well as organizing and maintaining files and attorney schedules. The position requires filing pleadings with court clerks and assisting in trial preparations by organizing exhibits and performing various other tasks as needed. To excel in this role, proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel, is essential. The candidate should be willing to learn our document management system and must possess strong multitasking abilities to thrive in a busy, team-oriented environment. Effective time management and organizational skills are crucial for success in this position, as the paralegal will be responsible for managing multiple tasks simultaneously while ensuring that all deadlines are met. The paralegal will also engage in direct communication with clients, attorneys, and other professionals to discuss case details, schedule meetings and depositions, and keep attorney schedules efficient and up-to-date. Additionally, the role involves investigating facts and laws related to cases, searching public records, and gathering and analyzing legal documents and data to prepare cases and determine causes of action. The paralegal will also be responsible for maintaining the law library and ensuring that legal volumes are up-to-date.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing affidavits, legal correspondence, and other documents for attorneys
  • Organizing and maintaining documents in a paper or electronic filing system
  • Meeting with clients, attorneys, and other professionals to discuss case details
  • Filing pleadings with court clerks
  • Scheduling meetings and depositions, keeping attorney schedules efficient and up-to-date
  • Helping prepare for trial by organizing exhibits and assisting with other tasks as needed
  • Contacting and coordinating medical expert reviews
  • Investigating facts and laws of cases and searching public records and other resources to prepare cases and determine causes of action
  • Directing and coordinating law office activity, including delivery of subpoenas
  • Gathering and analyzing statutes, decisions, legal articles, codes, documents, and other data
  • Calling on witnesses to testify at hearings
  • Keeping the law library up-to-date by monitoring legal volumes

Requirements

  • Certificate of completion from an ABA-approved paralegal certification program or an associate degree in paralegal studies, or paralegal experience
  • Minimum of Associate degree
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and manage time-sensitive documents
  • Exceptional organizational skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to function effectively in a busy, team-oriented environment
  • Office administration experience
