About The Position

The Patient Care Tech in the OBGYN Unit is responsible for assisting with patient care based on individual patient needs within the scope of practice under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. The role may involve cross-training to draw blood samples from patients through skin punctures and venipunctures while ensuring the integrity of the specimen for testing. Additionally, the Patient Care Tech prepares and collects specimens from patients through phlebotomies and distributes them to the appropriate laboratory units. There may also be opportunities to perform 12 lead EKGs.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or equivalency is required.
• Current BLS training is required.
• Formal phlebotomy training or phlebotomy experience is required.
• Completion of nursing fundamentals or one-year experience as a nursing assistant or completion of Nursing Assistant training or current KY State CNA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient care based on individual patient needs.
• Work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Draw blood samples from patients by skin punctures and venipunctures.
• Maintain the integrity of specimens in relation to the tests being performed.
• Prepare and collect specimens from patients through phlebotomies.
• Distribute specimens to appropriate laboratory units.
• Perform 12 lead EKGs as needed.
