About the position

Mayfield is seeking a part-time Payroll Specialist to join our Human Resources Department at our Norwood location. This position requires working in the office three days a week, totaling 24 hours per week. The Payroll Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring that associates are paid accurately and on time, serving as the subject matter expert on all payroll-related topics. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in payroll processing, particularly with ADP Workforce Now and Essential Time, and will be responsible for managing the payroll/timecard system, executing bi-weekly transmittals to ADP, and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local payroll legislation. In this role, the Payroll Specialist will collaborate with timekeepers on timecard entries and approvals, process new hires, terminations, and changes in associate information and compensation. The position also involves providing exceptional service related to payroll tasks, including pay, deductions, taxes, and accruals. The Payroll Specialist will partner with colleagues across various departments to ensure alignment in payroll processes and will assist in creating and disseminating payroll reports. Additionally, the role includes serving as a backup to the HR Consultant for benefit enrollment and contributions to third-party vendors. The successful candidate will demonstrate a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and will be highly organized, capable of managing a large volume of detailed work while meeting competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Outstanding communication and relationship skills are essential, as is the ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality of all payroll-related information.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on all payroll-related topics under the direction of the Director, Human Resources.
  • Ensure associates are paid accurately and on time.
  • Manage payroll/timecard system, executing bi-weekly transmittal to ADP within established deadlines and with exceptional accuracy.
  • Partner with timekeepers on timecard entries and approvals.
  • Process new hires, terminations, and changes in associate information and compensation.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and local legislation affecting payroll.
  • Provide prompt, courteous, and efficient service related to all payroll-related tasks (pay, deductions, taxes, accruals, etc.).
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure payroll processes align with Recruiting, Benefits, Finance, etc.
  • Create and disseminate various payroll reports.
  • Serve as backup to HR Consultant for submitting benefit enrollment/changes and contributions to third-party vendors.
  • Identify and implement changes for ongoing process improvement.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 8 to 10 years of payroll processing experience within ADP Workforce Now/Essential Time, preferably in a large, complex organization.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now & Essential Time required.
  • Proficient knowledge of tax-related and other withholding matters (Federal, State, Local, Social Security, Medicare, Local School Districts, Benefits, etc.).
  • Knowledge of wage & hours laws.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Teams.
  • Demonstrated bias for action and excellence, proactively seeking to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
