About the position

The Part Time Practice Assistant at Yorktown Urgent Care, part of Optum, is responsible for supporting the care team by completing essential processes and protocols. This role focuses on delivering excellent customer service, maintaining patient information, and ensuring adherence to organizational standards. The Practice Assistant works collaboratively with team members to meet financial, clinical, and service goals, all while providing compassionate care to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain accurate and updated patient information, such as name, address, insurance information
  • Perform insurance verification on the date of service
  • Obtain patient signatures for required documents
  • File and maintain medical records
  • Confirm and schedule appointments
  • Follow the Cash Security policy and procedures according to Optum Medical guidelines
  • Perform referral documentation promptly
  • Perform follow-up services for patients in a prompt and courteous manner, such as scheduling specialist appointments
  • Adhere to the standards identified via Sparq regarding Optum Employee Policies
  • Work cohesively with fellow employees to achieve specific team goals
  • Assure the continuity of care through scheduling and tracking systems
  • Provide effective communication to patient/family team members and other health care professionals
  • Comply with administrative policies to ensure quality of care
  • Demonstrate precision and efficiency in scanning documents and monitoring the fax server, retrieving and/or scanning documents and assigning to the appropriate electronic chart
  • Keep abreast on current medical requirements relevant to their position, including maintaining patient confidentiality and abiding by all HIPAA and OSHA requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
  • 1+ years of customer service or Healthcare related experience
  • Intermediate computer proficiency (multi-task through multiple applications including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word)

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with an electronic health record (EPIC)
  • Knowledge of Medical terms
  • 1+ years of experience working in a medical front office position performing duties such as scheduling appointments, checking patients in/out, insurance verification, collecting co-pays, and maintaining medical records
