About the position

The part-time Research Scientist at the Texas A&M Institute for Genomic Medicine is responsible for collaborating with investigators to design, perform, and analyze experiments aimed at creating genetically modified organisms and cell lines. This role supports the institute's in-house research efforts and requires strong project management skills, as well as the ability to manage custom gene modification projects and a transgenic mouse colony.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with investigators both internal and external to the TAMUS for project management purposes.
  • Work with other TIGM scientists to develop and support in-house research.
  • Manage custom gene modification projects for insect and mouse embryo gene editing.
  • Manage a transgenic mouse colony.
  • Provide on-site training to prospective investigators.
  • Analyze experimental data, keeping detailed records of procedures and documentation of results.
  • Develop research techniques and perform procedures required for specific research projects.
  • Interpret and assist in the preparation of figures and slides for publications and scientific meetings.
  • Assist in grant and manuscript preparation and development.
  • Order and track lab supplies.
  • Follow laboratory safety training and procedures to ensure compliance with government and TAMUS policies.
  • Respond flexibly to unpredictable project and scheduling demands, including weekend and holiday coverage.

Requirements

  • PhD in related field.
  • 6 years of related professional experience.
  • Good communication and computer skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Skills in procurement of research dollars.
  • Proficient in mouse husbandry and mouse experimental techniques.
