About the position

The Office of Research Marketing & Communications at Penn State is seeking a part-time staff member to assist with strategic writing and content development for the research enterprise. This role involves working approximately 10-20 hours per week to support key research content across various OSVPR units, institutes, and colleges, focusing on writing research articles and developing compelling narratives that highlight Penn State's research achievements.

Responsibilities

• Write research articles that represent Penn State's research enterprise, developing stories that reflect common themes and high-priority strategies.
• Identify and develop compelling narratives that highlight Penn State's research achievements across interdisciplinary institutes and colleges.
• Engage with faculty, researchers, and staff to gather accurate information about ongoing and completed research projects.
• Showcase the collaborative nature of research at Penn State by emphasizing how different disciplines intersect.
• Coordinate with Penn State's strategic communications teams to refine and polish articles, ensuring clarity and engagement.

Requirements

• Medium to advanced writing skills
• Experience with writing marketing content
• Advanced reading comprehension and understanding of information
• Ability to summarize broad collections of information while maintaining alignment with broader goals
• Ability to recognize and assemble information into assets like articles.

Nice-to-haves

• Degree or background in the life sciences
• Understanding of the Penn State research enterprise
• Prior experience writing strategic announcements and marketing content for life sciences.
