About the position

The Part Time Residential Support Specialist role at New Narrative involves providing supportive services to adults with serious mental illness. The position focuses on ensuring a clean and organized living environment, assisting residents in achieving their recovery goals, and administering medications as prescribed. The specialist will also lead activities, implement treatment plans, and provide skills training to enhance the residents' quality of life.

Responsibilities

  • Understand Oregon rules regarding Home and Community Based mental health services and assist residents in following a person-centered recovery plan.
  • Assist clients with daily living skills such as keeping appointments and completing household tasks.
  • Assist clients with individual goals based on their person-centered plans and Residential Service Plans.
  • Oversee house safety, including fire drills and resolving disputes among residents.
  • Ensure the facility is clean, orderly, and safe at all times.
  • Provide healthy meals and manage kitchen clean-up.
  • Encourage residents to participate in organized physical activities and promote healthy eating habits.
  • Maintain cleanliness of food storage areas, common areas, and employee office.
  • Complete all shift duties required by the facility.
  • Assist residents with deep cleaning and laundry tasks.
  • Conduct contraband checks as allowed by residents and OARs.
  • Distribute medication according to physicians' orders and New Narrative policy, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Encourage residents to learn about their medications, including names, dosages, and potential side effects.
  • Remain alert to changes in medication and update medication charts as needed.
  • Protect client rights and assist in crisis intervention.
  • Document all interactions and critical incidents according to policy and Oregon Administrative Rules.
  • Complete shift summaries and individual resident notes each shift.
  • Adhere to all New Narrative policies and procedures, including the NASW Code of Ethics.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age and capable of implementing emergency procedures and disaster plans.
  • Criminal records clearance through the State Mental Health Division prior to starting employment.
  • Tuberculosis testing within two weeks of hire.
  • Completion of a minimum of 16 hours pre-service orientation covering house rules, policies, and psychiatric disabilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • QMHA credentials preferred.
