About the position

The Part Time Respite Services Direct Support Professional (DSP) at Casey's Place is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for children with developmental disabilities. This role involves close collaboration with various staff members to meet the needs of the individuals in care, with a focus on promoting independence and community involvement. The position requires weekend availability and involves a range of responsibilities from supervision to documentation and personal care assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide constant supervision and safety of the children.
  • Manage children's behaviors according to approved techniques, including physical intervention when necessary (TCI).
  • Complete necessary documentation during the shift, including reading and signing all required documents thoroughly and on time.
  • Conduct bed checks at specified times on the Individual Protective Oversight Plan (IPOP).
  • Assist youth with morning, afternoon, and evening routines.
  • Administer medications as applicable.
  • Create a safe and secure environment by securing dangerous objects, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring safety of equipment.
  • Follow Behavior Guidelines and the Individual Protective Oversight Plan (IPOP) consistently.
  • Promote independent living skills, meal preparation, and restocking of supplies as necessary.
  • Encourage social independence and community involvement.
  • Assist with individuals' personal care when necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Adhere to all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisory staff or administration.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid NYS Driver's license.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills to work with children and young adults with developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to interact and work well with others in fast-changing environments.
  • Strong listening skills.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Self-confidence, self-esteem, and high moral character are essential.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Ability to use technology (Netsmart) to support service documentation.
