About the position

The Retail Operations Specialist is a part-time, hourly non-exempt position at Simpson College, specifically within the Business and Finance department, focusing on the Spirit Shop, Mailroom, and Copy Center. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of retail services on campus, with a primary emphasis on delivering exceptional customer service to a diverse clientele, including students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The position requires approximately 25 hours of work per week, with a flexible schedule that may include occasional weekends. In this role, the specialist will be responsible for both front-of-house and back-of-house operations across various cost centers. This includes leading a team of student workers in the absence of the Director and/or Assistant Director of Conferences, Events, & Retail Operations. The specialist will also oversee the successful operation of the campus mailroom, which involves managing mailroom equipment, handling incoming and outgoing parcels in accordance with USPS standards, and maintaining accurate records for the operation. Additionally, the Retail Operations Specialist will provide front-line support for the business plans of multiple cost centers, primarily focusing on the Mail Room, Spirit Shop, and Copy Center, while occasionally assisting with Conferences & Events Services as needed. The role also includes supervising student retail operations staff to ensure efficient and effective functioning of all retail outlets, as well as maintaining effective cash-handling and reconciliation activities related to point-of-sale operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide superior customer service to all clientele, including students, faculty, staff, visitors, and guests of the campus.
  • Oversee front-of-house operations for the Spirit Shop, Mailroom, and Copy Center.
  • Lead a team of student workers in the absence of the Director and/or Assistant Director of Conferences, Events, & Retail Operations.
  • Ensure successful operation of the campus mailroom, including management of mailroom equipment and record-keeping for incoming and outgoing parcels.
  • Support the business plan of multiple cost centers, mainly the Mail Room, Spirit Shop, and Copy Center.
  • Supervise student retail operations staff to ensure efficient operation of all retail outlets.
  • Maintain effective cash-handling and reconciliation activities related to POS operation.

Requirements

  • Minimum completion of a high school diploma or GED.
  • One or more years of related experience in a customer service role.
  • Preferred: Two or more years of progressively responsible experience in a customer service role with a proven record of success.
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25lbs regularly, up to 50lbs occasionally, and team lift up to 100lbs rarely.
