About the position

The University Information Technology Services (UITS) is seeking a motivated intern to join the Research Technologies department. This internship provides an opportunity for students to work alongside a diverse team of experienced professionals dedicated to assisting researchers at Indiana University in utilizing supercomputers and other high-performance computing systems. The intern will engage in various projects tailored to their strengths, skills, interests, and career aspirations, with a primary focus on developing web applications that facilitate the use of high-performance computers. Interns will have the chance to contribute in several ways, including but not limited to designing applications, developing use cases, conducting user surveys, performing usability testing, and engaging in front-end development using technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, TypeScript, or WebAssembly (WASM). The role emphasizes collaboration within a small, diverse team of developers and technologists, ensuring that interns receive excellent mentoring and support throughout their experience. This internship is designed to foster growth, creativity, and a culture of inclusion, aligning with UITS's commitment to diversity and employee well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a diverse team to assist researchers in using high-performance computing systems.
  • Contribute to the design and development of web applications for research purposes.
  • Engage in user experience and usability testing to improve application functionality.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University.
  • Experience with user experience and usability principles.
  • Familiarity with web application design, testing, and development.
  • Proficiency in relevant technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, TypeScript, or WASM.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
