Governors State University is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Part Time Substitute Teacher Assistant to join our team. This role is essential in supporting the educational environment for young children, ensuring that they receive a high-quality, developmentally appropriate curriculum that meets all NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) requirements. The Substitute Teacher Assistant will work closely with the teaching team and Lead Teacher to create a nurturing and engaging atmosphere that caters to the individual needs of each child while also being responsive to the dynamics of the group. The position offers an hourly rate of $15.74, which is commensurate with experience and education. In this role, the Substitute Teacher Assistant will be responsible for maintaining daily routines and schedules for all children in the classroom. This includes engaging with children during playtime, diapering, and feeding, while ensuring a warm and accepting environment for children, families, students, and community members. Safety is a top priority, and the assistant will be tasked with inspecting toys and equipment daily, supervising children at all times, and being aware of any allergies or medical conditions that may require attention. The assistant will also help maintain classroom ratios, which may involve covering in other classrooms as needed. The role requires a proactive approach to leadership, as the assistant will float between classrooms to ensure quality care and support. Responsibilities also include assisting children with social and self-help skills, maintaining health and safety standards, and documenting important communications with families. The ideal candidate will be committed to the program's philosophies regarding parent involvement and will comply with all regulatory health requirements, including pre-employment physicals and immunizations. This position is not only vital for the daily operations of the Family Development Center but also offers opportunities for professional growth through required trainings and meetings.
