About the position

The Computer Tape Operator role involves managing backup data tapes to support computer operations. This is a part-time contract position requiring basic computer skills and the ability to follow documented processes and procedures. The operator will perform various media operations, assist customers, and monitor system commands while ensuring adherence to safety and security protocols.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic Computer Tape Operator duties per documented processes and procedures.
• Mount and demount media as required.
• Execute system commands and report issues to Shift Lead/Supervisor.
• Determine minor to moderate problems and resolve them under supervision.
• Monitor scratch pools and outstanding tape mount messages.
• Query systems for outstanding mounts and print jobs, providing interpretation and resolution as needed.
• Recognize and resolve minor to moderate hardware malfunctions with guidance.
• Utilize communication tools effectively to assist customers and team members.
• Initiate searches for misfiled media when necessary.
• Provide constructive input for shift turnover to lead personnel.
• Perform floor sweeps to locate media as needed, including under equipment and floor tiles.
• Report any alarm maintenance or water leaks to management immediately.
• Adhere to security requirements and remain current with policies and procedures.
