About the position

The Part-Time Technical Assistant in the Chemistry Department at Nassau Community College is responsible for supporting the department chairperson and faculty in laboratory operations. This role involves assisting with laboratory experiments, maintaining equipment, and ensuring the smooth functioning of instructional courses.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance to the department chairperson and faculty in the operation of laboratories.
  • Make minor repairs and preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment, recorders, projectors, microscopes, etc.
  • Assist faculty members in the operation of audio-visual equipment.
  • Assist in laboratory experiments for instructional purposes.
  • Maintain records of equipment issue and use, as well as material and supply stock levels.
  • Assist in the preparation and administration of laboratory examinations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's of Arts (BA) or Bachelor's of Science (BS) in Chemistry or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years related lab experience.
  • Experience with video conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite of Products including Excel, Word, Power Point and Share Point.
