PART TIME TEMP ELECTRIC DISPATCHER

About the position

The City of Athens is seeking a Part Time Temporary Electric Dispatcher for the Electric Department. This role involves monitoring radio frequencies and incoming calls, providing dispatching services for utility departments, and maintaining accurate records. The dispatcher will work primarily on weekends and holidays, with potential weekday shifts to cover absences. The position requires strong communication skills and the ability to handle high-stress situations effectively.

Responsibilities

• Monitors radio frequencies and incoming telephone lines.
• Receives calls for service and relays information to field units and response agencies.
• Operates a variety of computer equipment for dispatching services.
• Maintains and files gas tickets, maintenance orders, and outage records.
• Enters outage information into the Outage Management System (OMS).
• Clears outages on the OMS once power is restored and prints outage reports as directed.
• Screens visitors and handles customer service inquiries and complaints.
• Completes written and computer logs, maintaining accurate records.
• Types correspondence as needed and maintains positive public relations.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years or older.
• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience required.
• Valid Driver's license with a good driving record.
• One year of experience handling a high volume multi-line phone system.
• Knowledge of utility organization and responsibilities is a plus.
• General knowledge of utility systems and geographical locations.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a dispatching role or similar environment.
• Familiarity with Outage Management Systems.
