About the position

The Pingry School is seeking a dynamic Part-Time Upper School Art Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. This position is designed for an individual who possesses a strong foundation in art fundamentals and is eager to share their knowledge with Upper School students. The successful candidate will join a dedicated team of art educators who are committed to fostering a lifelong passion for the arts among students. The role requires in-person instruction on the Basking Ridge campus and necessitates a flexible schedule to accommodate the school's 7-day drop day academic rotation. As an Upper School Art Teacher, you will be responsible for teaching two sections of Upper School Art Fundamentals. In addition to teaching responsibilities, you will fulfill any additional duties assigned by the Upper School Director and/or the Visual Arts Department Chair. Participation in all required meetings, including faculty division meetings, scheduled collaboration times, professional development days, and beginning and end-of-year meetings, is essential. You will also be expected to engage in professional development activities and provide extra support for students during flex and community times. Responsibilities

  • Teach two sections of Upper School Art Fundamentals.
  • Fulfill any additional duties as assigned by the Upper School Director and/or Visual Arts Department Chair.
  • Participate in all required meetings, including faculty division meetings, scheduled collaboration times, professional development days, and beginning and end-of-year meetings.
  • Participate in all required professional development activities.
  • Provide extra support for students during flex and community times.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree is required; post-undergraduate work or Master's Degree and previous classroom teaching experience are preferred.
  • Experience teaching Art at the high school level.
  • Knowledge of disciplinary core ideas.
  • Enthusiasm for working with high school students.
  • Fluency with current discipline-specific pedagogy.
  • Dedication to supporting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students.
  • Ability to work with students both in-person and virtually.
  • Robust interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Dedication to partnering collaboratively with a team of talented faculty.
  • Experience creating, supporting, and sustaining a culture of access and equity in Art education.
  • Comfort with incorporating the latest technology into your workflow, including Google Classroom and Zoom.
  • Skilled in navigating the Google Suite of applications (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, etc.).
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of the department and school community, including working hours based upon the school's rotating schedule.
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and pillars of the Pingry School, including a commitment to DEIB and the requisite skills to work cross-functionally with diverse constituency groups across the organization.
