About the position

The Parts Counterperson is responsible for selling automotive parts to customers both in-person and over the phone. This role involves assisting customers in selecting parts, managing inventory, and ensuring high-quality customer service. The position offers a base salary plus commission, and requires effective communication and organizational skills to handle various customer needs and sales processes.

Responsibilities

• Assist walk-in customers in selecting required parts and suggest companion requirements.
• Pull purchases from stock and determine availability for out-of-stock items.
• Answer phone calls, providing price quotes and other information.
• Assist outside sales representatives with their orders.
• Set up orders for daily shipment, delivery, or pick up.
• Verify 'will call' and 'back order' files weekly and manage returns to vendors.
• Solicit assigned accounts by phone.
• Assist service technicians in selecting parts needed for repairs.
• Open repair order envelopes for new repair orders.
• Order parts not in stock after discussion with Shop Foremen.
• Notify the Shop Foreman and customer when ordered parts are received.
• Ensure proper documentation for parts charged out and returned.
• Maintain cleanliness of counter areas and replenish inventory daily.
• Stay current on new products and participate in training programs.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of experience in an automotive parts department.
• One year of sales experience.
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
• Professional personal appearance.
• Ability to work well with the public, sometimes with several customers at a time.
• Must be legally and technically able to operate company and customer vehicles.
• Must be insurable by company insurance carrier.
