About the position

The Parts Technician position at J.B. Hunt is a full-time role based in Chicago, IL, responsible for ensuring that parts are readily available for truck and trailer technicians to perform necessary repairs. Under routine supervision, the technician will manage inventory stock levels, conduct audits, and submit orders to maintain an adequate supply of parts. This role may require working outdoors in various weather conditions and across multiple shifts, including nights and weekends, as well as overtime. Full-time attendance is mandatory to meet the demands of the position. Key responsibilities include fulfilling parts requests from technicians, ensuring proper charging of parts to the units under repair, and adhering to all company safety requirements. The technician will also mentor and train other shop personnel, maintain a clean and organized work environment, and ensure compliance with safety policies. Administrative duties such as maintaining records, filing, and supporting JBHT information systems regarding parts receipts, shipments, inventories, and usage are also part of the job. The technician will conduct cycle counts and periodic inventories, receive inbound shipments of parts, and ensure that all parts are stocked in their proper locations while updating the information systems accordingly. Responsibilities

  • Fulfill parts requests by technicians and ensure parts are properly charged to the unit under repair
  • Observe all Company safety requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Mentor and train other shop personnel
  • Ensure compliance of safety policies
  • Maintain a clean, well-ordered work environment free of trash and hazards
  • Retain and ship parts per the Company's Warranty Retention and Core Management procedures
  • Provide administrative support by copying and typing correspondence, maintaining records and filing
  • Maintain JBHT information systems in regards to parts receipts, shipments, inventories, and usage
  • Ensure each unit has required inventory of equipment in order to determine usability and replacement of non-functional equipment
  • Conduct Cycle Counts and periodic inventories as required
  • Receive inbound shipments of parts and fuel to ensure proper quantity ordered and free of damage; stock inbound parts to proper storage location and update information systems

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Up to 12 to 18 months of direct experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to work outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends if needed
  • Ability to fulfill physical requirements of the job including lifting above 50 lbs., bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling
  • Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE)
  • Ability to exercise discretion and make time-sensitive decisions
