About the position

8th Avenue Food & Provisions is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual for a manufacturing production position. This role involves operating and monitoring various production equipment, including long goods, short cut, noodle, and lasagna presses and dryers. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all production processes adhere to established specifications and quality standards. This includes monitoring recipe settings, making necessary adjustments on computers during die and format changes, and overseeing the extrusion patterns to ensure proper product specifications are met. Additionally, the operator will monitor drying systems to ensure products are dried according to specifications and will operate storage accumulators and finished product storage tanks. The position requires the ability to perform die changes using electric crane systems and to take product moisture readings as needed. Operators will also be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing equipment, which includes opening press heads, assisting in pulling augers, and cleaning various components of the production line. Safety and compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) are paramount, and operators must fill out daily reports that track downtime, cleaning activities, product specifications, and ingredient transfers. As part of the team, the operator will need to respond to alarms, troubleshoot issues, and recognize defective products, taking immediate action to resolve any problems. The role also involves maintaining good housekeeping practices in the production area and performing minor maintenance on equipment as needed. This is a non-supervisory role, and the operator will work closely with teammates and communicate effectively with all employees to ensure a smooth production process. The position requires regular and punctual attendance and the ability to perform all duties assigned by a Coordinator or Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor the operation of all long goods, short cut, noodle and lasagna presses and dryers.
  • Monitor settings on recipes to ensure proper parameters are used for the product being produced.
  • Make proper changes on computers when doing die and format changes.
  • Monitor extrusion pattern for proper length of long goods, short cuts, noodles and lasagna to assure proper product specifications.
  • Monitor all drying systems to ensure that products are being dried to proper specifications.
  • Operate and monitor storage accumulators, finished product storage tanks and storeveyors.
  • Make die changes as needed using electric crane (hoist) systems and or chain hoist.
  • Take product moisture on all lines as needed during the shift.
  • Operate die wash machine.
  • Perform and monitor shutdown and start up of all lines in press area.
  • Assist in cleaning and sanitizing equipment, including opening press heads and cleaning barrels and mixers.
  • Fill out daily reports including Downtime report, Mixer and K-Tron cleaning report, product specification report, and Flour transfer log.
  • Operate ingredient transfer system when required, including dumping ingredients.
  • Respond to alarms and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Understand and resolve flour system issues as they arise.
  • Recognize defective, incorrectly manufactured, incorrectly dried or burned product and take appropriate action.
  • Perform minor maintenance upon presses and dryers and assist maintenance technicians when needed.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices on presses and the entire processing area.
