About the position

Insmed is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our legal team as a Patent Agent or Patent Counsel. This position is based in Bridgewater, NJ, with potential locations in San Diego, CA, Lebanon, NH, or Cambridge, UK. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Company's Vice President, Chief Patent Counsel, and will be responsible for managing key aspects of the Company's patent portfolio. This includes drafting patent applications, providing advice on prosecution strategy, and engaging in IP due diligence activities. The role may offer a hybrid work schedule for the right candidate, allowing for flexibility in work location and hours. In this role, the Patent Agent will proactively collaborate with the research and clinical teams to identify inventions and draft invention disclosures. The individual will attend research and development meetings and patent review meetings, serving as a liaison for the IP team. Responsibilities also include leading and implementing patent prosecution strategies, conducting prior art searches for patentability and freedom to operate analyses related to the Company's product candidates and research efforts, and performing competitive intelligence and landscape assessments. The Patent Agent will review and analyze third-party patent filings and technical literature, participate in IP due diligence activities for in-licensing or acquisition projects, evaluate third-party patents in fields related to the Company's pipeline products, and participate in post-grant procedures at the USPTO. This position is critical to ensuring that Insmed's innovative solutions for patients are protected and that the Company maintains a competitive edge in the biopharmaceutical industry. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in biotechnology or a related field, along with excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively work with the research and clinical teams to identify inventions and draft invention disclosures.
  • Attend R&D meetings and patent review meetings, serving as a liaison for the IP team.

Requirements

  • Four or more years experience at an AmLaw 100 law firm, IP boutique or as a Patent Examiner at the USPTO required.
  • Ph.D in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or a related field required.
  • Superb technical, written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to write well as evidenced by past patent applications and USPTO responses.
  • Experience conducting research as a graduate student, and preferably as a post graduate.
  • Individual must possess initiative, be a fast learner, and work well with others.
  • USPTO Registration Number is strongly preferred.
