About the position

The Patent Paralegal - Foreign Filings role at Haley Guiliano LLP involves providing essential support for patent prosecution outside the United States. This includes filing applications, preparing instructions for foreign agents, managing a large docket, and ensuring compliance with the Patent Cooperation Treaty. The position requires collaboration with legal staff, clients, and foreign agents to meet deadlines and maintain accurate records. Flexibility in work schedule and occasional overtime are necessary.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and submits applications filed under the Patent Cooperation Treaty.
• Monitors external and internal deadlines for assigned matters.
• Reviews incoming and outgoing communications to ensure accuracy and organization.
• Prepares, reviews, and edits formal papers, including powers of attorney and deeds of assignments.
• Drafts and sends client reporting letters and updates client records.
• Assists with transfers of client portfolios into the firm.
• Assists with the onboarding of new legal and paralegal hires.
• Conducts research and stays updated on changes in laws and software systems.
• Performs other duties including supplemental coverage for the US filing team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and minimum of five years foreign patent prosecution experience or minimum of eight years foreign patent prosecution experience.
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of foreign patent prosecution practice.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong computer skills, including familiarity with advanced functions in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and respond quickly to shifting demands.
