About the position

The Pathologists' Assistant at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) plays a crucial role in managing tissue handling and various activities within the gross pathology facilities. This position involves responsibilities such as gross dissection, case management, and providing training to residents and students. The role is integral to ensuring efficient operations in the surgical pathology lab, which processes a significant number of surgical specimens annually.

Responsibilities

  • Manage tissue handling and activities in the gross pathology facilities.
  • Assume responsibilities for gross dissection, description, and case management.
  • Ensure urgent cases are prioritized and special studies are handled appropriately.
  • Maintain tissue banking and databases, coordinating with study coordinators and operating rooms.
  • Direct maintenance and technical operations of frozen sections areas.
  • Provide instruction, training, and supervision to residents, student fellows, and PA students in gross dissection and frozen section preparation.
  • Provide information about gross specimens to pathologists as needed.
  • Perform other related activities as required.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an AAPA certified program.
  • Passed the ASCP certification test.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for teaching.
  • Excellent professional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Competency in current laboratory and office technology.
