About the position

The Pathology Data Entry Clerk position is a full-time role that operates on an 8-hour shift from 3:30 PM to 12:00 AM, Monday to Friday, with no weekend work required. The primary responsibilities of this role include receiving, accessioning, labeling, and logging laboratory information accurately. The clerk will also be responsible for maintaining cleanliness in the work area, ensuring that logs, inventory, and supply levels are kept up to date. Communication is a key aspect of this position, as the clerk will need to receive and transmit telephone calls, pages, and intercom messages effectively. Additionally, the role involves picking up specimens from hospital receiving points and entering demographic information for all specimen types into the laboratory information system. The clerk will also be tasked with scanning requisitions into the document imaging system, which requires attention to detail and accuracy in every facet of the job. To be successful in this role, candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED and demonstrate good computer skills, including the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Interaction with other laboratory personnel and pathologists is essential, so strong interpersonal skills are necessary. The clerk must also have sufficient academic and clerical skills to evaluate, troubleshoot, research, and resolve day-to-day problems that may arise in the laboratory setting. Accuracy is paramount in this position, as the clerk will be handling sensitive laboratory information and specimens.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, accessions, labels, and logs laboratory information.
  • Performs related cleaning duties.
