About the position

The IRS Internship Program offers current students the opportunity to gain work experience while exploring new career paths within the IRS. This program is designed for students enrolled in qualifying educational institutions, allowing them to work part-time while maintaining their academic commitments. Successful completion of the internship may lead to non-competitive placement in a Seasonal Clerical Position within various IRS divisions.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, records, sorts, batches, associates, controls, stages, collects, mails, extracts and distributes incoming/outgoing work.
  • Maintains, updates, and purges suspense/closed files; examines and perfects documents; determines header data and numbers return/documents; maintains supplies and prepares requisitions.
  • Performs a variety of administrative tasks using an automated system, including assigning, maintaining, monitoring, or updating work status and inventory records; order research; acknowledging correspondence; maintaining, updating and initiating personnel records.
  • Revises procedures and controls as indicated by assigned technician.
  • Prepares memoranda, preliminary reports, and charts showing findings or recommendations.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Must be enrolled in at least a half-time basis in a qualifying educational institution and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Must complete a minimum of 480 hours of work experience through the program before completing academic program requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in clerical or administrative tasks.
  • Familiarity with automated systems for managing work status and inventory records.
