About the position

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the position involves admitting, registering, and pre-registering patients in a courteous, professional, and timely manner. The role includes conducting patient and guarantor interviews, explaining hospital policies, collecting and assisting patients with their financial responsibilities, and informing patients about their bill of rights. It is essential to ensure that all necessary demographic and financial data is obtained and accurately documented into the manual or Invision system. The position also requires verifying insurance through the electronic verification system or by contacting insurance payers for verification of eligibility and benefits. Additionally, it is important to ensure that any pre-certification or authorization is obtained to meet individual payer payment protocols. The role includes assisting patients with a financial screening assessment for eligibility with the EPCHD programs.

Responsibilities

  • Admit, register, and pre-register patients in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Conduct patient/guarantor interviews and explain hospital policies.
  • Collect and assist patients with their financial responsibilities.
  • Inform patients about their bill of rights.
  • Ensure all necessary demographic and financial data is obtained and documented accurately.
  • Verify insurance via electronic verification or by contacting insurance payers.
  • Obtain pre-certification/authorization to meet payer payment protocols.
  • Assist patients with financial screening assessments for eligibility with EPCHD programs.

Requirements

  • Ability to deal tactfully with associates, patients, visitors, and the general public.
  • Basic computer literacy and keyboarding skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of commercial and managed care payors and terminology.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Nice-to-haves

  • One year of office and/or customer service experience with knowledge of basic office equipment and computer software programs.
  • Healthcare or financial background preferred.
  • Training or educational background with medical terminology and familiarity with ICD9 coding preferred.
