About the position

The Patient Access Associate is a part-time role focused on providing essential support in the patient registration process during night shifts. This position involves interviewing patients to gather necessary identification and insurance information, ensuring accurate documentation, and facilitating communication between patients and healthcare staff. The associate plays a critical role in enhancing patient experience by educating them about hospital policies and assisting with various clerical duties across multiple departments.

Responsibilities

• Interview patients to obtain necessary identification information and prepare required forms for treatment billing or record release authorization.
• Apply ID bands to patients following the two identifier rule.
• Contact insurance companies for notifications or information.
• Educate patients about Advance Directives and Charity Care when necessary.
• Enter arriving patients into the computer system to facilitate patient processing and throughput.
• Assist departments with projects and various duties as assigned by management.
• Collect copayments, deductibles, and all hospital payments, entering them into the Emdeon system.
• Document all follow-ups and ensure all necessary signatures are obtained for consents and authorizations.
• Distribute registration forms to various locations within the hospital and ensure all documentation is completed accurately.
• Communicate patient movements with unit secretaries and Nurse Managers.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Understanding of medical terminology.
• Prior customer service experience.
• Basic computer and keyboarding skills.
• Ability to learn quickly as technology and insurance requirements change.
• Ability to walk and stand in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
• Effective communication skills with all levels of the organization.
