About the position

The Patient Access Associate is responsible for facilitating patient access to services at Anderson Hospital by accurately collecting and entering demographic and insurance information into the hospital registration system. This role emphasizes excellent customer service while ensuring the privacy of patient health information. The associate plays a crucial role in the registration process, including verifying eligibility, handling financial responsibilities, and ensuring compliance with hospital policies.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and obtain identification and insurance information.
  • Enroll patients in the hospital medical identity theft program.
  • Confirm existing patient information and obtain any additional necessary information.
  • Follow procedures for outpatient services and special processes for registrars.
  • Perform eligibility verifications required at registration.
  • Review physician orders and ensure correct physician is added to the record.
  • Complete the Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire with patients.
  • Determine if non-scheduled services require insurance authorization and contact insurance companies as needed.
  • Collect any financial obligations from patients at registration and provide financial counseling if necessary.
  • Perform cashiering functions including collecting payments and balancing the drawer.
  • Explain and review registration documentation with patients before obtaining signatures.
  • Communicate with receiving departments when patient registration is complete.
  • Understand Meditech downtime processes for major incidents or maintenance.
  • Review and complete registration issues appearing on a worklist created by registration quality software.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior customer service experience is required.
  • Typing skills of at least 50 wpm.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills needed.
  • Computer and organizational skills are necessary.
  • Medical terminology course or background preferred.
