About the position

The Patient Access Associate Registration Specialist position at Intermountain Healthcare is a part-time role focused on patient registration, billing, and resolving payment issues. This position is essential for ensuring accurate patient data entry, verifying insurance information, and facilitating financial transactions while adhering to company policies and procedures. The role requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as effective communication with patients regarding their accounts and billing inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Register patients and confirm, enter, and update required demographic data on the registration system.
  • Avoid overlays and duplicate patient medical records.
  • Follow procedures for patient identification and apply identification bracelets.
  • Register patients during system downtimes and enter data immediately upon system availability.
  • Obtain and explain copies of insurance cards, forms of ID, and signatures on required forms.
  • Verify insurance information for coordination of benefits and obtain necessary authorizations or referrals.
  • Complete the Medicare Secondary Payer questionnaire when applicable.
  • Screen for and process non-covered services and waivers of liability.
  • Inform self-pay patients of their liability and coordinate funding sources if applicable.
  • Prepare estimates of procedures and calculate advance payment requirements.
  • Refer potentially eligible patients to financial counseling or eligibility vendors.
  • Coordinate with clinical areas to obtain accurate orders for patient financial expectations.
  • Collect patient payments and provide accurate receipts.
  • Post all payments in the system and reconcile receipts with cash collected.
  • Document patient account notes for all interactions and transactions.
  • Maintain departmental work queues and reports as required.
  • Explain and answer patient billing inquiries and interpret statement data to resolve accounts.
  • Escalate unresolved account issues and update the emergency department room tracking system.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required.
  • At least one year of experience in the hospitality or service industry preferred.
