The Patient Access Associate is responsible for performing registrations, discharges, and transfers for all patients while ensuring the timely collection and verification of required information. This role involves greeting patients and their families, assisting with pre-registration and registration processes, and ensuring compliance with various regulations. The associate plays a crucial role in patient data collection and financial obligation determination, contributing to a positive patient experience in a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and family members and offers assistance.
• Completes all steps of pre-registration and registration including patient interviews.
• Collects insurance information and obtains photo identification and signatures for consent.
• Distributes required patient information and literature.
• Coordinates accurate patient data collection to verify insurance eligibility and determine financial obligations.
• Ensures compliance with HIPAA, Joint Commission, CDC, and state and federal statutes.
• Responds to all emergency procedures as needed.
• Assists patients in wheelchairs to their required service locations.
• Communicates with co-workers and management regarding follow-up or concerns.
• Demonstrates flexibility and organization in stressful situations.
• Prioritizes assisting patients based on critical needs.
• Assists with training of new personnel.
• Maintains a professional demeanor and respect towards all patients and staff.
• Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to team efforts.
• Communicates the mission, vision, and goals of the organization.
• Participates in self-directed learning and continuing education.
• Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous typing, word processing, and computer application experience required.
• 1+ years of customer service experience required.
• Medical terminology, medical office, registration or billing experience preferred.
