About The Position

The Patient Access Representative at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital is responsible for greeting, pre-registering, and registering patients in a professional manner. This role involves verifying insurance benefits, checking for pre-certification, and ensuring timely resolution of customer issues while providing quality customer service. The position requires flexibility as it rotates through various areas of patient access and may involve working different shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in insurance verification and medical office/hospital customer service.
  • Associate degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and register patients in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Verify insurance benefits and check for pre-certification, authorization, and referral requirements.
  • Perform medical necessity checks as needed.
  • Secure patient signatures for required hospital forms.
  • Collect patient's financial responsibility when required.
  • Provide professional customer service and timely resolution to customer problems.
  • Communicate revenue cycle related issues to patients, physicians, and hospital colleagues.
