About the position

The Patient Access Representative is responsible for greeting customers in a professional and friendly manner, ensuring timely registration of patients, and collecting updated demographic information. The role requires knowledge of insurance processing, CPT and procedure codes, and the ability to explain financial obligations to patients. The representative must also assist with patient flow, obtain necessary signatures, and provide information about financial assistance programs. The position demands strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to handle stressful situations and conflict resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Greets all customers in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Ensures timely registration of patients, typically not exceeding 15 minutes.
  • Collects updated demographic information and accurately codes information on all patients.
  • Completes patient estimates using Clearance and explains insurance processing.
  • Uses PCA (Compliance Advisor) for all applicable patients and informs them of financial obligations.
  • Obtains all necessary signatures and completes MSP on Medicare patients.
  • Scans and documents patients' photo ID and insurance card.
  • Creates a tickler for insurance verification and initiates authorization when necessary.
  • Provides information about the LCMH Financial Assistance program.
  • Identifies when help is needed and provides clear directions to customers.
  • Notifies House Supervisor of all direct admissions upon arrival.
  • Discusses the online Patient Portal and encourages patients to provide their email address.
  • Assists with patient flow in the assigned area without prompting.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • At least one year of experience working in a healthcare-related field, preferably finance.
  • Adequate keyboard skills (40 words per minute typing rate).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Negotiation skills including assertiveness and proactivity.
  • Ability to read, write and speak intelligible English.
  • Basic math skills and appropriate phone etiquette.
  • Emotional stability and resilience; adaptability to change.
  • Demonstrates foresight and organizational ability.
