About the position

The Patient Access Representative - Emergency Center/Data Team (Consenter) at Memorial Hermann Health System is responsible for providing high-quality patient access services, including scheduling appointments, verifying insurance eligibility, and ensuring compliance with medical necessity. This role also involves mentoring team members and leading daily operations to enhance patient experiences and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and lead team members in the department.
  • Schedule patient appointments and enter required information accurately in the computer system.
  • Obtain demographic, insurance, and financial information from patients or guarantors.
  • Explain required forms to patients or guarantors and obtain necessary signatures.
  • Ensure medical necessity compliance by obtaining necessary data and communicating with patients or guarantors.
  • Protect the financial integrity of the facility by collecting patient liability and establishing payment arrangements.
  • Complete complex financial counseling and review charity applications.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, ensuring notifications and authorizations are completed timely.
  • Post payments in the computer system and generate appropriate patient receipts.
  • Monitor, review, and resolve patient account issues on assigned reports.
  • Perform account analysis and trending, and complete quality reviews for process improvement.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, care management, and other departments, as well as patients and their families.
  • Complete thorough and accurate documentation of all interactions and processes.
  • Adhere to all policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications.
  • Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting education and competency requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Three years of experience in a hospital or medical business office setting.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Proficient typing/keyboarding skills.
  • Supervisory and/or leadership experience preferred.
